Introduction

We aim to make everyones stay as comfortable as possible.We are family run by a husband and wife team who’s working background is from the service industry.We have 6 bedooms,1 of which is on the ground floor and is a twin room. This room is close to the entrance and is wheelchair friendly and also has a visual fire alarm for the hard of hearing.The other 5 rooms are on the first floor.

Pre-Arrival

We are a gentle 15-20 min walk to town center and harbour and less than a 10 min walk from the train station.Bus stops to all localities are within 5 mins,as is the seafront.Local taxis are in abundance.Our website-www.theabbeyfieldtorquay.co.uk-provides pictures of rooms and further information on our facilities and those of Torquay itself.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities 

Please advise us of your anticipated arrival time so that we can help you on your arrival.We’ve got parking spaces for 6 cars, plus there’s also unrestricted parking near by.The entrance is off the car park-across a flat tarmac surface.There is a small step up to the front door and a small step over the threshold (easily accessible with a little help)The entrance is lit during the hours of darkness and the car park and garden are lit until a reasonable hour.

Main Entrance & Reception

The front door has a small step over to a large piece of coconut matting-flooring in the corridor is wooden.On arrival guests are asked to complete the registration form and are then shown their room and our facilities are explained.There is plenty of literature for days out,places of interest available in this area.Keys for front door & rooms are given to guests so as they can come and go as they please.

Public Areas – General (Internal)

The dining room and guest lounge are on the ground floor. The bar is in the dining room and the flooring is short pile carpet.The lounge has wooden flooring and a rug, There’s a television with teletext and remote control. Access to upstairs is via carpeted staircase, which are of a generous width and within normal limits for rise and tread. The twin  room is on the ground floor whereas the others are on the first floor. There’s a small half landing at the top of the stairs followed by a larger landing with a seating area. The rooms in the upstairs area are 3x double rooms and 2x Suites. Fire call points are situated in prominent positions both up and downstairs. 

Public Areas – WC

All rooms are ensuite, one upstairs double room has a double shower enclosure and power shower,all the rest of the rooms have showers which are either gravity fed or instantaneous.There is a 6″ step upto the shower in the downstairs twin room.

Dining Room, Bar & Lounge
Breakfast is served in the dining room which is on the ground floor and has plenty of room for disabled guests wheelchairs etc.The room has double aspect windows and plenty of lighting for evenings. English or continental breakfast is served with vegetarians catered for. There are 2 types of chairs available.Background music is played during meal times. special diets are catered for.Our lounge is again on the ground floor and has comfortable seating for 6 people, a t v and selection of books for both adults and children plus traditional board games etc.it is very well lit.
There is a small well stocked licensed bar on the ground floor.

Laundry

  • Laundry facilities aren’t available to guests in house,but there is a laundry locally that picks up and drops off -ask for details. 

  • We have an iron and ironing board available.

Shop

The nearest shops are within 5 mins walk. There’s a fair selection inc :pharmacy,newsagent,butcher,baker.conv store and more. There are 2 ways to go, but one involves steps!

Leisure Facilities

The Riviera centre for swimming pool and tennis courts as well as aqua aerobics and other activities is 5 mins away by foot -slightly down hill going. The facilities are what you would expect in the center with all disabilities catered for. For the more adventurous thers pitch & putt or bowls —Disabled toilet facilities are available in this area which also fronts Torre abbey and there are good paths leading through abbey gardens where beyond , the sea front awaits and apleasant 15-20 min walk to the harbour passing Princess theatre and countless places to eat and drink. Cinema and ten pin bowling are further into town along with all retail shops. If you reach the town hall then Abbeyfield is probably a 10 min walk, but it is hilly!

  • As well as the leisure facilities already mentioned there are countless gardens,beaches,walks and attractions we are happy to advise where we can about there facilities and accessibility. 

  • Oh mustn’t forget to mention the world famous zoo at Paignton.

Bedrooms

  • We’ve 6 rooms in total- all have central heating,compliment tray,flat screen freeview tv’s, fans, and en suite facilities. All rooms have large mirrors with lights. 

  • We have 2 Suites – one with its own  lounge and the other with seating area  Both are on the 1st floor along with the 3 double rooms. The twin is on the ground floor.

Bathroom, Shower-room & WC [Ensuite or Shared]

  • All rooms have en suite facilities. The bathrooms also benefit from vinyl floor covering and all but 2 have a window. The shower in the twin room does have a grab rail although there’s a 6″ step upto a large ledge and then a normal entrance to the cubical, there is a shower chair available. Shower mats are also available. the downstairs twin room also benefits from a flashing fire alarm in the main bedroom. 

  • The showers in the bathrooms are both instantaneous and gravity/pumped with thermostatic control where necessary.

Grounds and Gardens

There is a garden to the side of the building. It can be lit and there is plenty of seating available. It’s a flat walk across the car park and there are shallow steps down and also a level area for guests with wheelchairs.
