The English Riviera

Torbay, also known as The English Riviera, has over 22 miles of glorious coastline to explore and a wealth of local attractions and events. It is also within easy reach of a number of fantastic Devon attractions such as Dartmoor and Agatha Christie’s holiday home Greenway.

Local attractions close to the Abbeyfield include the Princess Theatre, a short 9-hole golf course, water sports and sea trips to name but a few. There are also lots of beautiful walks right on our doorstep, not least the South West Coastal Path and a lovely walk through water meadows to Cockington.

We have excellent transport links close by for travel throughout Torbay. The coastal bus route number 12 travels from Torquay to Brixham and is within walking distance from the guest house, as is Torquay railway station (a 10-minute walk from the Abbeyfield).

Season-dependent attractions include firework displays, the English Riviera Airshow, the International Agatha Christie Festival, the Brixham Pirate Festival, England’s Seafood FEAST, sailing regattas and power boat racing.

Torbay has a diverse range of cafes and restaurants including Indian, Thai, Chinese, Italian, French and seafood as well as Michelin and rosette starred restaurants.

Torbay tourist information office is located in the inner harbour in Torquay with information on entertainment and shows throughout the Torbay area.

Star attractions in Torbay include Torre Abbey, Living Coasts, Paignton Zoo, Dartmouth Steam Railway, Babbacombe Model Village and Kents Cavern. Agatha Christie’s holiday hideaway Greenway and various other National Trust gems are all within easy reach.
